Ford Ranger Restraints Warning

I had my relatively new Ford Ranger PX3 (3 months old at the time) triggered a Restraints Warning light. It randomly came on whilst driving on a bit of a bumpy road and would reset, but then returned permanently. I took it back to Ford and turned out it was a clock spring that required replacing.

It took a few weeks for the part to arrive, but after the clock spring was replaced the issue has not returned since.

Where and what is a clock spring?

A clock spring, also known as a spiral torsion spring, is a component found in some automobiles, especially in the steering systems. It is a flat, coiled spring that provides a continuous tension to the steering wheel or other rotating parts, allowing for smooth and consistent operation even as the parts move or rotate. The clock spring is located within the steering column and connects the steering wheel to the vehicle’s electrical and airbag systems, providing a flexible and durable connection between the two.
